Local Partners and Suppliers

Bombardier’s relationship with the China Aviation Industry dates back to the 1970s and has since been fostered through a collaborative approach that has seen us participate in industrial and governmental initiatives to cultivate R&D collaboration between Canada and China. In recent years, that relationship has evolved into a true partnership.

In 2006, Bombardier Aviation signed a major cooperation agreement with Shenyang Aircraft Corporation (SAC) as a supplier of aircraft components. The packages supplied by SAC represent approximately 12%, by weight, of the Q400 aircraft.

In 2007, China Aviation Industry Corporation and Bombardier Aviation announced a Memorandum of Understanding for a long-term strategic cooperation in the five-abreast, 90- to 149-seat commercial aircraft market. Through this agreement, we confirmed our technical assistance in the development of the ARJ21 program.

In 2008, we built upon our business relationship with SAC and China Aviation Industry and moved beyond a simple supplier agreement in announcing a collaborative agreement. With this agreement, Bombardier became an OEM to provide China Aviation Industry design authority on major supplied parts. In addition, through our design IT system, we are linking our activities in Montreal to SAC’s Shenyang offices for online, live knowledge sharing.

Bombardier Transportation’s long history in China continues to be strengthened though partnerships. We currently operate four joint venture manufacturing facilities in Qingdao (Bombardier Sifang (Qingdao) Transportation Ltd.), Changchun (Changchun Bombardier Railway Vehicles Company Ltd.), Shanghai (Shentong Bombardier (Shanghai) Rail Transit Vehicle Maintenance Company Ltd.) and Changzhou (Bombardier CPC Propulsion System Co., Ltd.).
